Alcus Lamar Garrett, 92, led a life to be admired. He spent 69 years married to the love of his life, Alma Daniels Garrett, with whom he raised two beloved daughters, Krista Garrett Clark of Jacksonville, FL, and Patsy Garrett Hill, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He spent cherished time with his grandsons, Michael Garrett Hill, of Grand Rapids, MI, and Matthew Lee Hill, of New York, NY, imparting his many wisdoms with kindness and love.
Lamar proudly served his nation in the United States Merchant Marines and worked for Borden Dairy for 42 years. He earned numerous awards and honors through his professional and charitable works with the American Legion, Big Brothers, 4-H, Kiwanis International, and Florida Dairy Products Association.
Lamar passed peacefully on April 30, 2018 in FWB after spending the day visiting with his loved ones. He will be sorely missed, as through his personal examples and many accomplishments. He was much loved and respected by friends and family.
Lamar was born in Milligan, FL to Gladys and Claude Garrett on April 24, 1926. He went to school in Crestview, FL and was married to Alma in 1949. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands; his two grandsons and their wives; his three great-granddaughters, Josephine Hill, Evangeline Hill, and Parker Hill; and sister Claudia Garrett Patton of Crestview, FL.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Rd. NW, Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Hohn of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery and a reception will take place afterwards at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church of Ft. Walton Beach.
