Margaret Elise Pierson

Margaret B. Pierson, a resident of Brookdale Senior Living, passed away on September 14, 2019.  A native of Birmingham, AL., she was graduated from the University of Alabama where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.  During WWII, she served in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C. in charge of Family Allowance Division before leaving the service with the rank of Lt. Cdr.  She later served as President of the local chapter of Waves National.  Margaret earned her MS Degree from Simmons College School of Social Work and was employed with the State Crippled Children’s Service in Alabama, and later with the State Department of Human Resources, Atlanta, GA in the Family Planning Program.  During her long career she was a part time field work instructor for the UT and FSU Schools of Social Work.  She held membership in a number of professional organizations and was a charter member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.  Margaret and her husband, Walter C. Pierson, who preceded her in death in 2003, lived their retirement years in Destin, where they enjoyed fishing and boating and participating in civic and volunteer organizations.  There are no immediate family members and as earlier requested, there will be no formal service.  Margaret was Presbyterian by faith.  It was her wish that friends remember her simply by extending a kindness to someone in need.  Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed online at www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com
