Sophia (Sonia) Green Dudek peacefully fell asleep in the Lord arms on Wednesday, October 18. She was 1 of 8 children born to Russian immigrant parents. The family settled in Baltimore, Maryland where she was born 95 years ago. Sonia worked all of her life, starting with ‘piece work’ sewing and in the vegetable packing house of the 1940’s. During World War II she received awards for her sheet metal work at Martin Aircraft. After the war she opened her own children’s wear shop for a time. Finally settling at the Social Security Administration, she was promoted beyond her education level because of her management skills. Sonia worked tirelessly for her Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Baltimore and for her efforts, was awarded a citation from the then Patriarch of All Russia. Sonia and her husband moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1982. She was a member of the Okaloosa Island Leaseholders’ Association, a past president of the Island Garden Club, and a member of Sts. Markella and Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. But more than anything, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Sonia is survived by her daughter Constantina (John) of Navarre, grandson Matthew (Megan) and great-grandson Johnathan of Fort Walton Beach, sister Niada Budacz of Baltimore Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews.
