Nancy was born December 12, 1935 in Hornell, New York. She lived and grew up in Romulus, New York, and graduated from Romulus Central School in 1953. Nancy then attended Freeman Business School and graduated in 1955. On June 11, 1955, Nancy married her soulmate, John H. Dates Jr. Their loving union continued until John’s death in 2009. When John entered the Air Force, the newlywed couple moved to Sheppard AFB, TX, where she gave birth to the first of three sons, John III in July 1957. The new family was then transferred to Eglin AFB, Florida. In 1961, John was sent to Japan, where the family was stationed at Tachikawa Air Base. In October 1964, Nancy gave birth to her second son, Michael. In February 1965, the family then returned to Eglin AFB, the last permanent move they would make and called Fort Walton Beach home, where Nancy gave birth to her third son, Brian in July 1966. Nancy worked various jobs throughout her career, including stenography at Eglin AFB hospital, a second job at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, and finally retiring from civil service at the Wright Armament Lab on Eglin, where she worked as a purchaser. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband John, and parents Russell H. and Marion F. Spencer.  Nancy is also survived by her son John III and wife Angie; son Michael; son Brian and wife Vicki all from Fort Walton Beach.; three sisters, Joan Dobson of Heath, Ohio, Jean LaFleur of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Carol Doranski of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren John IV, Leigha, Eric, Jessica, Brandy, Kyle, Korey, Kaytlin, Dwight and wife Angela and Kelsey and great-grandchildren Malachaisha, Nathan, William, Connor, Kingsley and Ali Mae.  Viewing and celebration of life will be held Thursday January 11th from 6pm to 8pm at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be on Friday, January 12th at 2pm at the funeral home
