Happy “60th” Anniversary
George J. and Eleanor L. Nicoloff
July 31, 1954 – 2014

Today George and Eleanor Nicoloff will celebrate their “60th” wedding anniversary! The couple met while attending George Williams College in Chicago, Il in 1950. They both were studying physical education and had aspirations to become school teachers. George had a competitive spirit and was passionate about playing basketball on the college’s team and Ellie loved to attend the games to watch him play. After a 3-1/2 year courtship, the couple married at Flossmoor Community Church in Flossmoor, Illinois on July 31, 1954.

George Nicoloff (86) was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to Stoian “Sam” and Blaguna Nicoloff in 1928. After graduation from Marshalltown H.S. in 1946 he moved to Chicago to attend George Williams College. Eleanor (84), known as “Ellie” by her friends was born in Chicago, Illinois to Norval and Josephine Rapp in 1930. Ellie graduated from Hyde Park H.S. in 1948 and began her studies at George Williams College in 1949. A year later, George caught her eye and they started dating. In 1952 George and Ellie both graduated from George Williams College with B.S. Degrees in Health and Physical Education.

In July 1953, George entered the US Air Force. George served for 30 years before retiring as a
Lt. Colonel. The Nicoloff family first moved to Shalimar in November, 1971 when George was assigned to Eglin AFB after a tour in the Vietnam War. In 1977, George was re-assigned to Clark AFB and then returned stateside for his last assignment at Keesler AFB. Upon retirement in 1982, George, Ellie and son Thomas returned to Eglin AFB/Shalimar, FL to live. As for Ellie’s life during her husband’s military service, she briefly pursued her training in education and was a teacher. Once the first child came, she dedicated her entire life to raising the children and making their house a “home” no matter where they were assigned. Over the years, Ellie’s role as a “military wife” was the “substance” which held the Nicoloff Family together. George and the children were very blessed to have her “unconditional” love and “unselfish” dedication. George and Ellie have been members of the Shalimar United Methodist Church for over 40 years. They have five grandchildren, Karen (38), Allen (18), Jack (10), Audrey (8) and Benjamin(6) and three great grand-children, Amelia (6), Isabel (6) and James (4).

Since retirement, George has not let a moment pass without being actively involved in something. He was a substitute teacher and assistance coach, he built two enclosed porch additions onto their home, was very active with his son’s Boy Scout Troops and even furthered his leadership training by completing the Wood Badge Program for adult leaders, he was the score keeper for the NWF State College basketball team and lastly his passion has always been maintaining the yard. Despite all efforts from his family, George still loves to mow his own yard, trim the bushes and maintain the house. It may take him a “bit” longer than when he was younger, but he is determined not to give it up! Ellie oversees all the projects and maintains a very close eye on her “honey” of “60 years” making sure that he eats, takes breaks and does not over exert himself in the hot sun. Ellie has not changed over the years, she still keeps the pantry and 3 refrigerators stocked with all the food you would ever need for “two” people, plus some! Together, George and Ellie share a serious passion for “BASKETBALL!” They are active members in the NWF State College Raider’s Club and very seldom do they miss a game during the season. In their spare time they do manage to catch a “cat nap” every once in a while. George and Ellie are true “soul mates.” When one is weak, the other is strong and it is with this miraculous “balance” in co-dependence on one another that there truly must be a “higher being” guiding these two through the twilight years of their lives!

Best wishes for many more happy years together!

Much Love Always,
Thomas G. Nicoloff, Lynn M. Everts and James B. Nicoloff
