LTC (Ret) Charles R. Moore of Shalimar Fla, passed away June 3, 2017, at the age of 84. He was born in Northport, Al in 1933. He is preceded in death by his parents William & Ophelia Moore and 6 sisters, 4 brothers and 1 granddaughter. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Herta (Sonja) Moore, Sons- Glynn Moore (Suzanne), Gary Moore (Joy), John Moore and Troy Moore (Hon Kei Chan) along with 1 Grandson, 3 Granddaughters and 10 Great Grandchildren.  He joined Military Service in 1949 and in 1952 became a triple volunteer in the Army, Airborn, Special Forces. He served in the 10th Special Forces Group (SFG), 77th SFG, 7th SFG, 8th SFG and 5th SFG, alongside his brave soldier brothers who he dearly loved. He was honored with many awards, including; Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (5 Campaigns), Air Medal (1 OLC), Vietnamese Jump Wings, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Legion of Merit, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Master Parachute Badge, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal. After Retirement from the Army in 1979, he Joined Vinnell Corporation where he spent 6 years in Saudi Arabia. Upon returning to Florida, he joined McDonald Construction where he spent the next 16 years working as Director of Administration. Following his final retirement he continued to be active in SF Associations, Veterans Groups, Church and Family Services. He touched many lives and shared his knowledge with so many. He was a 32 degree mason with the Masonic Order. He was a Christian Warrior and an Unconventional Soldier who will be dearly missed but still in our hearts forever. The family has requested in lieu of flowers any donations be made to Shalimar Methodist Church. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Friday, June 9th at 1:00 PM at Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach. The family will accept visitors 1 hour prior. Burial with Military honors will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
